Pop songstress Debbii Dawson is looking into her own reflection in her newest single, “Turn The TV On,” a melancholic bop that comes with the announcement of her forthcoming EP, How To Be Human, out June 28. Following the project’s lead single “Happy World”, this second taste offers a less upbeat but equally reflective listening experience.

“Turn The TV On” is about the distractions we turn to when feeling numb from the hectic outside world. It’s subtle in its heartbreak, making it easy to get lost in the dreamy production and Dawson's captivatingly unique voice. This descriptive guitar-driven ballad is devastatingly relatable to anyone who listens, as we all must find ways to cope with the world we live in. With a subtle build and dazzling release, “Turn The TV On” demands your attention to the point of pure hypnotism. It’s ethereal to the point of reaching a psychedelic quality which, paired with Dawson’s angelic croon, evokes a classic, timeless atmosphere.

Speaking on “Turn The TV On,” Dawson shares, “The true meaning of this song lies in what is unsaid. Wishing that I could turn the world off but instead finding an escape in turning my tv on, never leaving home, and the numbing mundaneness of an uneventful life.” That sentiment comes to life through the honest lyrics and journey of the beautiful production. She paints a vivid picture, adding details like “Matching hairs made of maple / Heavy drapes block the sun” so listeners can place themselves in the shoes of this personal songwriter and connect with the universal experience of her mesmerizing world.

Starting this week, the rising star will join Orville Peck to support select dates of his 'Stampede North American Tour' through June, in addition to joining Suki Waterhouse for her Denver date in September.
