Hear Talker Take A Different Road On New Single "Drag Your Feet" | THE NOISE

LA emo-pop artist talker breaks our hearts with the release of her latest single, "Drag Your Feet." The track is an emotionally sincere and devastating song that uses the idea of two people's roads growing further apart to visually represent the dissolution of the 5-year relationship she's spent much of her discography writing about.

Pulling influence simultaneously from dreamy indie pop production and harder rock instrumentation helps her immortalize that push-and-pull in the final months of a relationship destined to fall apart. The undeniably catchy chorus sees talker croon, "We're not going the same way, walking the same pace, wanting the same things / Either way I can take it, don't want to waste it," alluding to that shifting of life plans, but also the relief of finally facing the truth. "Drag Your Feet" builds inexorably toward the slashing guitars on the second chorus, followed by one of the most memorable bridges of the year. The new song also showcases talker's flair for words, like this beautifully succinct epitaph for the relationship: "When all is said and done, I lose bits of me for none of you."

"I've said that the songs on my new record are my most honest songs ever — but that doesn't always just mean being honest with others," talker says of the single. "Sometimes, it means accepting a hard truth for yourself. 'Drag Your Feet' was written after the end of a five-year relationship that had been slowly dying for a really long time. It's the story of two people crashing into each other's lives where their roads converge but then realizing it's just one point on the map — those roads have to separate.

The longer we hold onto things that aren't meant for us, the harder it is to feel in alignment with ourselves. Knowing that you can take the pain, and shouldn't waste the lessons learned, is empowering. It's also really hard to accept. But staying always ends up being harder in the long run."

The accompanying music video, directed by herself, is an equally heartwrenching visual that follows her as she packs up her belongings. As she struggles with her luggage, she anguishes over her falling apart relationship, matching the energy of the intense emotions of the release.

This coming year, talker's debut full-length, TWENTYSOMETHING, produced with Collin Pastore & Jake Finch, Daniel Loumpouridis, Jon Graber, and Aidan Hogg, will finally arrive and bring with it a sense of energy and catharsis that she's been building to the whole time.
