Kacy Hill’s Flowers Are Wilting in Sublime New Single “The Garden”
Our favorite ethereal pop princess Kacy Hill has announced her new EP But Anyway, No Worries! alongside another heart shatteringly beautiful single, âThe Garden," co-written with Tofer Brown (Jon Pardi, Lady Antebellum) and produced by Tommy King (HAIM, RAYE) and Paul Cartwright (Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo). The full project, due in August, comes at a transformative time for the seasoned songwriter. From heartbreak to genre-shifts, Hill is coping with change the best way she knows how, channeling it through her specific artistic vision.
âThe Gardenâ strikes a melancholic chord immediately with its intimate fingerpicked guitar and delicate strings. The subject matter is both introspective and existential as Hill pictures a future she never truly fit into. At its core, âThe Gardenâ is about the similarities between love and nature, another theme that stays close to Hillâs heart and artistry. As she sings about the pain with an air of acceptance, beautiful comparisons are drawn between a blooming garden without someone to protect it and a heart broken after years of growing a relationship.
On the inspiration behind the single, Hill shares that it âwas written in my darkest days after a breakup and one thing I missed the most was my garden. I felt anger that the fruits and vegetables that had brought me so much joy, that I had lovingly tended to and harvested and sat with, were still in what was now his backyard, growing without me.â Although thereâs lingering resentment, this track lets it all go. From its gorgeous strings and weeping steel-pedal, the soundscape is freeing and cathartic. Towards the end of âThe Gardenâ, its strings swell and then fizzle into silence. The listener is left with the reminder that no matter how much she wants to hold on, letting go is the only option.
If youâre wondering what to expect from But Anyway, No Worries!, Hill shares âThis feels like the project Iâve been trying to make for years. Every project Iâve made before has started with production ideas, and I build songs around little production loops or ideas, but this was entirely about the words and melody. I want to make something timeless that feels deeply from me and pulls from my biggest inspirations in country and folk music.â We certainly canât wait to hear what else Hill has in store, especially after hearing the sublime new single that is âThe Garden."
