Lola Young Finds the Silver Lining in "Not Like That Anymore"

Ivor Novello's Rising Star Award winner and Brit-nominated Lola Young is burning bridges left and right on her newest single, "Not Like That Anymore." Stripped back, with the honesty of a torn-up diary page and the faded shimmer of a summer fling, "Not Like That Anymore" is an anthem for breaking the rules and leaving the past in the dust.
Summery guitar riffs and steady percussion support her signature raspy voice as she doles out authentic lyrics draped in brutal honesty. She mixes sarcasm, desperation, and self-awareness into her verses, opening up about how difficult it can be to move on when you've become dependent on or even addicted to someone. In the cheeky chorus, she finds herself looking on the bright side post-breakup, crooning, "At least I'm not fucking myself anymore, not anymore / And I got a little kick out of declining your call / I guess that means I don't need your dick at all / And so I'm fucking myself, but not like that anymore."
The accompanying visualizer features a close-up of Young and a miniature version of herself dancing in the background. The close-up version of her throughout the performance continues to entertain viewers with her cartoonish facial expressions that add to the narrative of the track.
The new track will feature on the artist's forthcoming album I'm Only Fucking Myself, set to release September 19. The album will also include the previously shared head-bopping, dub-grooved "One Thing" and is set to explore themes of self-sabotage, using sex and drugs as a form of coping and escapism, nihilism, and more. Young has also been busy with several festival performances, including Glastonbury, Roskilde, Lollapalooza Paris, All Things Go Festival, and more. Young will also begin her North American Headline Tour in November and December this year. She will perform in major cities, including Toronto, New York City, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Vancouver, Seattle, and Los Angeles. The tour will conclude on December 7 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
