Lotte Gallagher is Staying True to Herself.

For Melbourne-based indie-pop artist Lotte Gallagher, music has always been deeply personal. From writing her first songs at 14 years old to recording in a studio with the help of her supportive family, she’s built a sound that’s honest, introspective, and unapologetically her own. Songwriting is a way for her to process life’s ups and downs, and she carries a little red notebook everywhere to capture moments of inspiration.

Through it all, Lotte has learned that the most important thing is to stay true to yourself, regardless of what others think. With growing confidence in her sound and vision, she’s making music on her own terms—and that’s exactly how she wants it.

Let’s get to know Lotte:

Ones to Watch: Can you introduce yourself and tell us how you got into music?

Hey, I'm Lotte Gallagher, and I'm an indie-pop artist from Melbourne. I kind of professionally got into music when I was about 14—I wrote about an EP's worth of songs around that time.

That’s amazing! Were your family supportive of your music career early on?

Yeah, my parents were very supportive. They actually sold their car at the time to get me in a studio with a producer, and I'm very grateful for that.

What’s your songwriting process like? Where do you find inspiration?

I start writing songs mostly when shit goes south. I constantly carry a little red book with me—if I think of something that could be interesting for a song, I write it down. Then I’ll sit down and actively write a guitar part.

How do you feel you've grown as an artist over time?

I just think I know what I want more, and I’m more confident in saying what I want to say.

Have you faced any challenges when it comes to making music?

Probably caring what people think is one of the hardest things I’ve had to deal with. Trying to get over that is scary, but at the end of the day, you can't change what people think of you—and there’s no point worrying about things you can’t control.

What advice would you give to other artists trying to find their own voice?

I think as long as you’re doing what you want to do and what makes you happy, that’s the most important thing.
