Magnolia Park Celebrate Double EP Release With Vampiric Video For "Blud Luv"
Prolific Orlando fivesome Magnolia Park celebrates their double whammy EP release by dropping the music video for their synth-laden, alt-dance track "Blud Luv." The track, lifted from the SoulEater EP, sees the band continue experimenting and smashing genre boxes by incorporating house and dance music aspects into their highly energetic and eclectic sound.
On "Blud Luv," keyboardist Vince Ernst performs vocal duties alongside frontman Joshua Roberts. Amid a collage of sleek synths, echoing vocal ad-libs, and steady percussion, he sings, "When you leave me alone/ The pain keeps me at home/ Our pictures on my phone." As the instrumentation builds, he further explores the complicated emotions that come with the territory of heartbreak, declaring that his former toxic ex will be his last mistake.
"We wrote Blud Luv in a hotel room on the A Day To Remember tour. At first, it was a basic pop-punk style song, but when we brought it in the studio, Decode made a house beat to the vocals, and it became a party anthem. A lot of inspiration came from Fred again.. and the house music scene."
On the bombastic chorus, angsty guitars, thrumming basslines, and crashing percussion join the mix while Ernst belts, "Gave you my heart/ It wasn't good enough/ Blood spilling from your mouth/ Taste of selfish." Overall, the track is a passionate, mosh-worthy experience that sees the band reclaim their agency after a selfish and narcissistic partner's exit, which is one hell of a good reason to get out and dance.
The accompanying music video is a surreal visual that finds the band transformed into creatures of the night. Donning fangs and drinking "blood," the group gets up to some late-night mischief, performing the track in an empty grocery store, playing games in an arcade, and wandering the neon-drenched town. The video ends with Ernst walking alone on a pier, looking off into the ocean as the waves crash against the sand.
On their 2022 debut album Baku's Revenge, the Florida outfit proved they're more than a "TikTok band" and continue to break that stereotype. With songs as thought-provoking as they are accessible, the members' lived experiences are present every second of each track. Since the album release, the guys have shared a few standalone singles highlighting their penchant for catchy melodies and massive guitar hooks, propelling them to 7 Million monthly catalog streams. Constantly pushing the limits as they develop and refine their craft, the MoonEater and SoulEater EPs are their way of showcasing the duality that exists within themselves.
Setting the tone for a dark and ethereal soundscape, the MoonEater EP highlights metalcore influences via crushing breakdowns and washes of highly distorted guitars yet draws from trap production and alt-rap fundamentals. The project includes their hit single "Do Or Die," a self-described "hybrid version of Phonk and rock" featuring aggressive vocals from rapper Ethan Ross. Meanwhile, another single, "Homicide," boasts massive arena-rock sonics.
For SoulEater, the band wanted to establish a brighter mood with fun, uplifting lyrics, and catchy hooks as they look to their pop influences. Employing textural alt-pop production and dreamy synth soundscapes, they present a modern update to the classic 2000s pop-punk bands they grew up on. With playful energy and youthful angst, the music video for "Manic" pays homage to Blink 182, reimagining the trio's energetic riffs and catchy hooks.
“The double EP is us showing everyone what Magnolia Park is capable of," says the band. "And to prove that we are the next generation of Rock to come.” Known for their unique blend of hip-hop, hard rock, pop-punk, and alt-pop, these two EPs showcase their love of experimentation, marking their growth as a band and individual musicians.
