Nessa Barrett Embraces Her Intrusive Thoughts in "BANG BANG!"

Breakout alt-pop artist Nessa Barrett has returned with her volatile new single, "BANG BANG!" With its pulse-pounding beat and insidious bassline, the punk-infused anthem showcases Barrett's quick wit, razor-sharp lyrics, and knack for unforgettable hooks, continuing to highlight her penchant for creating infectious music tinged with playful, swirling darkness.

The menacing single opens with a thrumming, foreboding bassline that instantly builds a sense of underlying tension. "I know that it sounds absurd, but sometimes I just get the urge," the 20-year-old sings over rambunctious guitar riffs, "That if there really was a purge, you're the one that I'd kill first." As the track builds, Barrett talks about her intrusive thoughts and wanting get revenge on an ex and their new lover. She embraces her dark impulses, giving listeners a piece of intoxicating debauchery that demands to be played again and again and again.

"The song was written about my borderline personality rage," Barrett says of the explosive single. "There's times where I just get so mad that I think about the craziest things I want to do in that moment, I feel like everyone deep down has intrusive thoughts even though they don't want to admit it."

The accompanying highly stylized Hunter Lyon-directed music video perfectly captures her rage and fury. The grainy, black-and-white visual finds the pop artist embracing her crazy as she poses for a mugshot and flipping between scenes of her getting ready for her close-up and singing to the camera.

"BANG BANG!" is the artist's first release since dropping the extended version of her debut album, young forever, in late 2022. Additionally, the rising star is hitting the road on their first-ever North American headlining tour starting in Phoenix, AZ, on February 22 and closing out at the historic Hollywood Palladium on March 25.
