REI AMI Returns to Slay in Delightfully Dark Single "Body Bag"

REI AMI is back with a vengeance. Her first single in two years, "body bag" is a deliciously dark and seductive track fueled with throbbing bass and haunting vocals that sound like the equivalent of a succubus luring listeners to a delightfully dreadful end.

"body bag" kicks the door down with its booming bass and a flurry of fluctuating beats and synths. The anti-pop heroine croons over the addictively catchy soundtrack verses about how she plans to capture and incapacitate her prey. Biting lyrics and falsetto threats about the downfall of her enemies like "Push you off my rooftop / As I make a wish /While your body drops," fill the air, making it known that REI is the last person you should mess with, lest you want your tongue cut out or worse, end up in a "body bag."

The aesthetically pleasing music video is a mesmerizing visual that sees the rising artist in a variety of highly stylized scenes. Adorned in black and red lace, she sings to the camera about her devious plans while exuding the bad bitch energy she's known for. B-roll footage of Persian rugs, stilettos stepping on hands, and poured drinks intercut scenes of empty, red-lit warehouses and fuzzy VHS footage.

Although "body bag" is the first single of 2023 for REI AMI, the Korean-born artist has been busy honing her craft and collaborating and touring with artists like Pussy Riot. In 2022, she featured on the Russian feminist protest and performance art group's single "Plaything" alongside Australian producer Kito, creating a melodic hyper-pop-infused effort framed with cellophane production and iridescent vocals.
