Rewind: Our 5 Favorite Music Videos of the Last Week
While it’s far too easy to lose ourselves in the deluge of new music releases that grace us every week, one thing that cannot and should not be overlooked is the art of the music video. With the heyday era of MTV long behind us, Rewind sees us taking a look back at a handful of our favorite music videos of the past week.
Waxflower feat. Sydney Sprauge - "Misaligned Love"
A pensive thumbing track about tricky missed love connections, Waxflower's video for "Misaligned Love" is a study in simplicity, taking two isolated settings — a carpark and neutral closet — to showcase a palpable wave of angst, frustration, and loneliness. Directed by Nick Hargans and Giles Higginson, frame within frame shots, muted, and stark lighting add so much emotion and energy to a song and story already brimming with life.
Noga Erez - "Nails"
Ooooohhh this one was an immediate add when we got it a few weeks back. Noga Erez's "Nails" is a proper contender for song of the summer and is elevated by an absolute eye feast of a video. Brilliant, interesting casting, thriller-like dance choreography, crazy helicopter lighting, and a proper David vs Goliath narrative make this standout moment a contender for video of the year as well.
The Happy Fits - "Dance Again"
The Happy Fits deliver another absolute gem of a video with "Dance Again." Take a great persona, doing a risky business dance capade through the Cameo house, and pivot into a live performance from the bashfully fun The Happy Fits and you have a recipe for success. Director Rahil Ashruff did the most for the song, making it a true tribute to singing and dancing to your favorite band.
Andrekza - "Paz"
It's hard not to have a creative crush on one of our Ones To Watch favorites Andrekza. She’s fearless, original, and deeply imaginative about her calling in a way most could never be bothered. In "Paz," she serves as both the creative director and director, and the colorful results show her unique approach at every angle and shot, singing and posing from a stormy set that just oozes cool. Peep the sand-colored effort above.
Your Grandparents feat. Amindi - "Someone Told Me"
Again, what a week for visual efforts… Ever feel like your life has taken on the cruel surrealism of a sitcom, with audience applause, laughs, oohs, and ahhhhhs? Well, Your Grandparents nailed the feeling in this dope concept for the Amindi-assisted "Somone Told Me," ideated and executed by themselves. With great bad TV references and tongue-in-cheek acting, the song shines with fun and irony.
