Sarah Julia is Fed Up with Lack of Commitment in New Single “Whatever It Takes (To Break Your Heart”

There’s nothing worse than being someone’s partner in every sense except for them actually calling you their partner. You spend the night, go on cute dates, but when they introduce you to their friends they refer to you in a vague, non-committal way. Dutch sister duo Sarah Julia is fed up with this wishy washy approach to defining a relationship, and lay out all their frustrations in their new single “Whatever It Takes (To Break Your Heart).”

Sarah Julia isn’t hiding their feelings. As soon as the song opens the lyrics call out a partner as they sing “You hardly sleep in your own bed / Told your friends I’m just a friend after a week / After a month / After a year.” As the song continues into the chorus Sarah Julia’s voices intertwine in harmony as they sing “You make me want to break your heart / I’ll do whatever it takes / I’ll do whatever it takes to / Wake you up / To let you know what you’ve got / To let you know what you’ve lost.” The single has a casual, almost aloof air to it, not only in the lyrics but in the bright, upbeat instrumentation that accompanies them. Sarah Julia isn’t fighting for the relationship, rather they want to be the ones to come out unscathed, they want to be the ones to cause the heartbreak.

The rest of the year is set to be busy for the sister duo. Their debut album The Fear That This is Real is coming on October 9th. Sarah Julia will also play plenty of live shows, opening for Mon Rovîa on the Bloodline Tour, and on their own headline EU/UK tour in November and December.
