Sun Room is Focused on “Raw, Loud, Rock ‘n Roll” in Latest EP Ritual of Chaos

SoCal rock band Sun Room, made up of Luke Asgian, Ashton Minnich, and Max Pinamonti, are no strangers to garnering attention. Sometimes bad, their early house shows often got shut down due to noise complaints, but more often the attention was good. The trio’s music was featured on Netflix’s Outer Banks, growing their fanbase and leading to an opening slot on Louis Tomlinson’s 2022 World Tour. Earlier this year, Sun Room released three singles, “Jackknife,” “Oslo,Paris,LA,” and “She’ll Move To London,” all of which are featured on the tracklist of their latest EP, Ritual of Chaos, alongside three additional songs.

Considering the band’s career started with rowdy house shows, it’s no surprise that the EP’s opening track “Jackknife” features gritty electric guitar and a pulsing bass line, accompanied by lively drums. The energy never drops and it’s easy to picture Sun Room fans packed into a room, sweaty and dancing, but loving every minute of it. The energy continues in “She’ll Move to London,” the band’s take on the infamous post college Europe trip that plagues college graduates’ Instagram feeds. Speaking on the song, Asgian shared, “Lyrically, the song is basically about kids who come from wealthy families and take off to London or Paris after finishing school without having to worry about money. That always blew my mind. I mean, I would if I could so maybe I just wrote the song out of spite? That’s probably what it is.”

While the EP’s opening tracks feature the familiar rock sound that fans love, the third track “Oslo,Paris,LA” showcases a new side of Sun Room. “Oslo,Paris,LA” is the band’s first acoustic track. Written while Asgian was first falling in love, the song features raw vocals over a strummed acoustic guitar. A melancholy harmonica also appears in the mix, emphasizing the emotions that come with a long distance relationship. Lyrics such as “When you’re sleeping baby / I'm just up / Now you’re in Paris girl and I’m outta luck / The city starts it’s morning / The paper appears / But I’m in LA and you’re not here,” perfectly highlight the love and longing that are a hallmark of long distance relationships.

The energy returns in “On Fire,” the perfect follow up to “Oslo,Paris,LA.” The lustful song feels like the first night that you’re reunited with your long distance love, as Asgian sings “I want your love tonight / We’re on fire / Getting bored of the decency / Talk until it goes decently / I want your love tonight / We’re on fire.” Sun Room’s enthusiasm never falters as the EP rounds out with “Don’t Start a Riot” and “The Night’s Not Over,” both featuring the powerful drums and electric guitar found throughout the EP.

The night is in fact far from over for Sun Room. The band will support flipturn in August on their Burnout Days Tour, before kicking off their own headline tour, The Jackknife Tour, in September.
