Young Culture And Daisy Grenade Team Up For Infectious New Single "Jesus" | THE NOISE

It's the New York team we didn't know we needed but everything we wanted to ring in emo fall. New York bands Young Culture and Daisy Grenade join forces and wow us all with the release of their new single, "Jesus." The upbeat track tells the story of a toxic relationship that is too addictive to leave with instrumentation that frames the push and pull of passion that makes you want to stay.

The single opens with a dose of reality with the line, "It's been a really bad year/ but I'm getting pretty used to that." Driving guitar riffs and percussion patterns weave in and out of lyrics like, "Why do I get high when you keep taking me low?" The fun, bouncy verse immerses the listener into a heavier chorus that feels like a full-on house party track that demands we all sing and scream along.

"This song is about situations that are toxic but too addictive to leave at the same time," Young Culture vocalist Alex Mangan says. "We wrote it during a writing retreat out in Philadelphia earlier this year and knew it had to be a standalone as we felt it was something we had never done before and stood out as so."

The upbeat track features the vibrant Daisy Grenade in the second verse, bringing a new perspective and fusing their pop and musical theater vocal tone into the mix. Then, the band comes back in for an explosive finish, with vocals of Mangnan and Dani Nigro pairing perfectly, showcasing the future of the scene and today's breakout voices.

"'Jesus' is so special to us because we got to work on it with a bunch of people we love," shared DG duo Dani Nigro and Keaton Whittaker. "The boys in Young Culture are truly like family, and the fact that we got to collaborate in this way is such a dream come true. Plus, the song absolutely rips -- we heard it for the first time in a green room in Toronto while we were on tour, and we immediately fell in love, so it was so cool when they asked us to be on it. We're hopeful for more YC/DG collabs in the future!"

The accompanying music video is a lively visual made up of a dynamic montage of Young Culture on the road and a few clips of Daisy Grenade performing the song onstage. From videos of the band goofing off backstage to meeting fans at the merch table, the music video has the early 2000s aesthetic of a VHS tape, giving the song an added coating of feel-good nostalgia.
