ericdoa Clutches a Comeback Hit With "search & destroy"

Pop purveyor ericdoa makes his grand return with the release of his latest single, "search & destroy." Created during his two-week-long LOCKED IN studio session, the single was the third track completed during the 24/7 Livestream. Backed by endorphin-rush-inducing production, the banger is full of nods to Call of Duty: Black Ops, blurring the line between our hero and an emotionally conflicted player one.

The warped sound of a helicopter blade slap ushers the listener in before cutting to ericdoa's glitchy vocal intro. Throughout the verses, he narrates his preparation for his mission, saying he's "good to go, I'm strapped in / Call in control, ready for extraction," feeling focused and determined to "finish the mission" even though he knows that if he dies, he won't respawn. Over the fast-paced, pulsating hook he deploys for his mission, intending to "search and destroy" at any cost, crooning to the ether, "Hope the suppressor kill the noise / I drown my cup to fill the void." Down the line, the artist examines the personal cost of love and war, with lines like "I gave then my soul, but they still treat me like a boy," packing a heavy punch.

The accompanying music video, directed by Nevefilms, follows a lone ericdoa preparing for battle, gun by his side. Footage of him in the throes of combat intercut his meditation, showing the outcome of his isolated preparation. Suddenly, the video switches to scenes of him struggling and hooked up to a chair while static plays on the TVs in front of him.

The single is the first release since his defining sophomore album DOA earlier this year. The 10-track, 23-minute body of work is a vibrant and feverish sprint through everything that makes his music exhilarating. Throughout the record, he shows off his brilliant knack for creating music that sounds abrasive, raw, and direct without sacrificing an ounce of the frivolous, spirited, and party-ready atmosphere at the core of it all.
