JAWNY Hops Aboard the Never-Ending Rollercoaster of Love in “true”

Indie alt-pop artist JAWNY kicks off the new year with his bittersweet new single "true." In the track, the hopeless romantic dissects the never-ending rollercoaster of love and comes to terms with the fact that he still has feelings for someone he's trying to get over.

"true" opens with off-kilter guitar riffs before launching into a world full of colorful, sleek instrumentation. JAWNY captures the disheartening descent, expressing his loneliness in a deadpan soliloquy adorned with weighty beats and slick guitar licks. As the chorus kicks in, he transforms into a crestfallen crooner, singing, "Maybe it's through / Still I'm in love with you / There's nothing I can do, and I wish it wasn't true." In typical JAWNY fashion, no matter the topic, a playfulness always lurks underneath, with jaunty hand claps pushing the song to its swaying sing-along conclusion.

The accompanying music video, directed by Spencer Ford, is a simmering and slightly outlandish visual that features JAWNY playing the song with a trio of muscle-bound, shirtless men, one of which he's sitting on the shoulders of. Viewers watch as madness ensues, starting with the group's instruments emitting smoke. Then, the room melts into a sweltering fugue state while the JAWNY and company sweat and continue to play, completely unfazed by the rising heat.

After a packed 2022, which included supporting tour slots with Beck and Oliver Tree, JAWNY will be back on the road in March 2023 to kick off a headlining tour, featuring support from rising indie-pop artist Wallice. Starting March 3 in San Diego, the tour will include stops in Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and more.
