Cybertrash and midwxst Gaze Ahead With New Heater “with u”

2022 has been a Trash year—with a capital T of course, for nobody in the world of music has fed their fans as consistently as our king Cybertrash. Since he made his long-awaited return earlier this summer with the eclectic banger “play pretend,” Mr. Trash has held listeners in a chokehold whose grip only intensifies with every release.

From his collaborations with groupthink and Vaeo to his dulcet alt-pop anthems like “sweet Illinois,” Cybertrash has done little this year besides honing his sound and dropping bops, and now he returns with what may be one of his best. “with u” is the newest single from the young Atlanta star, featuring none other than midwxst, and together the two of them close out the year with a single that is more than deserving of your eyes and ears.

Is Cybertrash fortunate to have midwxst on a song? Or is midwxst fortunate to have Cybertrash on a song? It’s a trick question; listeners are fortunate that the two unlikely iconoclasts have joined forces on a track that is perfectly primed for your weekly rotation. Synthesizing minimalistic guitar melodies and pounding percussion, “with u” sees the Trashman and midwxst trading performances so polished and unique that I’m reminded of the halcyon days of hyperpop past. Between the track’s clever writing and forward-thinking production, neither artist is trying to play to a trend or already popularized style. Both Cybertrash and midwxst are progenitors of a new era in music that I’m excited to watch unfold.
